The Gazette has been revamped. All materials published prior to July 2006 have been placed in this archived section, which will not be updated nor corrected unless someone brings a serious error to our attention. Editor's note: We strongly believe that the city should have its own web site. After all, our tax money pays salaries of the city staff, and the least we should be able to expect is some modern means of communication from city hall. Once Gilbert establishes a web site, its staff could efficiently post documents such as the minutes. So nudge your elected leaders and tell them it's time to move into the 21st Century in terms of effective communication. Tell them it's also time to be better at the basics of communicating.

Also, we have discontinued writing meeting summaries on a regular basis. We believe that the summaries have been an important project. If nothing else, the collection of summaries provides us and our readers with an excellent base for researching what has transpired at council meetings..

Frankly, though, it takes a huge amount of time to prepare summaries. We get no money for doing the job and very little feedback about what we write. We plan to continue attending and recording meetings and occasionally will write commentary on what is transpiring at city hall. But for now, the energy we have invested in doing the summaries could be better spent on other endeavors.

Official minutes of city council meetings are published in the Ames Tribune about 14 days after a council meeting. They will be posted on the Gazette shortly after the meeting that follows the meeting covered in the minutes. That way the council can approve the minutes before they are posted here.

Caution: the minutes listed here should be used only for informational purposes. If you have official or legal reasons to access the minutes, please contact the city clerk.

The unofficial summaries of council meetings are prepared by the Gazette, posted sometimes within 24 hours after a meeting and sometimes several days after a meeting.

NA means not available at the time of this posting.

We have finally posted the minutes for the year 2001. We plan to also post the minutes for the year 2000 but will wait until another day to do so. Scroll down the page to find the minutes from past years.
