MINUTES OF THE GILBERT CITY COUNCIL MEETING

GILBERT, IOWA

FEBRUARY 5, 2001

  

CALLED TO ORDER: 7:04 P.M. at City Hall, by Mayor Bob Jaquis


ROLL CALL: Present: Chris Benda, Helen Gunderson, Lynn Henn, Peg Uthe and Fred Vogtlin.

 Absent: None


    Moved, by Fred Vogtlin, seconded by Lynn Henn to approve the minutes for January 22, 2001, and the agenda and claims list for February 5, 2001. Motion declared carried unanimously.

 

    No Citizen requested to speak at the Open Forum and no written comments were received.

 

    Mayor Jaquis welcomed Harold Jensen, Story County Engineer. The City Council had discussion about the culvert on Gretten. Harold Jensen said that at the present time the County does not have this project in their budget. After more discussion of what the City would like done with the culvert on Gretten, Harold Jensen said, he would go ahead and design the project with no cost to the City, but the cost of the project would be a joint expense split 50/50 with the County, for the budget year 2002.

 

    Helen Gunderson brought up the question as to what it would take to widen the section of the highway that goes from Gilbert to the Gilbert corner. Harold Jensen told the Council that at any time they could make a motion or present a letter to the County Board of Supervisors. Harold went into detail with the Council on traffic control guidelines and dimensions for a project like this.

 

    Harold Jensen had discussion with the Council on the possibility of a bicycle trail from Gilbert to Ames.

 

    Mayor Jaquis discussed with the Council the problem with delinquent water bills. The Council agreed that to protect the City they would start reporting delinquent bills.

   

     Mayor Jaquis had discussion with the Council about handling complaints and concerns.

 

    Council discussed the budget and budgeting for the culvert on Gretten and the recreational trail.

  

     Moved by Lynn Henn, seconded by Fred Vogtlin to adjourn at 9:00 p.m. Motion declared carried unanimously.
