MINUTES OF THE GILBERT CITY COUNCIL MEETING

GILBERT, IOWA

AUGUST 20, 2001

CALLED TO ORDER: 7:00 P.M. at City Hall, by Mayor Bob Jaquis


ROLL CALL: Present: Chris Benda, Helen Gunderson, Lynn Henn, Peg Uthe and Fred Vogtlin.

 Absent: None


    Moved, by Fred Vogtlin, seconded by Peg Uthe to approve the minutes for August 6, 2001 the revenue and expense list for July 2001, and the agenda and claims list for August 20, 2001. Motion declared carried unanimously.

 

    Tony Redling requested to speak at the Open Forum, Tony informed the Mayor and City Council that his Eagle project was completed on June 23, 2001. Tony explained to Council what the Eagle project had accomplished

 

Mayor Jaquis and the Council thanked Tony for the great job he and the other troops did.

 

    No other citizen requested to speak at the Open Forum and no written comments were received.

 

    Jaime Miller, resident at 211 Rothmoor was present to discuss the speed of traffic on Rothmoor. Jaime said that there have been a lot of vehicles driving at a pretty high speed on Rothmoor going to Jensen. He said that there are a lot of children on that street and if something is not done that it could amount to an accident. Jaime suggests a stop sign put at the corner of Rothmoor and Jensen.

 

    Jason Popillion, resident of 209 Rothmoor expressed his concern with the number of vehicles that are traveling at a high speed on Rothmoor. Jason also suggested putting a stop sign up to slow traffic down.

 

    Mayor Jaquis understands their concern. The Mayor explains that he has contacted the DOT about a stop sign and they informed him that stop signs do not necessarily slow traffic down.

 

    Mayor Jaquis says that he would like everyone to keep track of the vehicles with their license plate number.

 

    Council member Benda suggests that a crosswalk for the kids to cross, going to school might be an option to slow people down. Benda also included that they should not entirely rule out the idea of a stop sign.

   

    Moved by Lynn Henn, seconded by Fred Vogtlin to adopt Resolution 370, proposing disposal of the North 35 feet of the South 110 feet of Lot 15, Block 7, Original Town of Gilbert, Iowa.

    Roll Call Vote: 5-0.

    Resolution 370 declared adopted unanimously, signed by the Mayor and hereby made a portion of these minutes.

 

    Moved by Fred Vogtlin, seconded by Lynn Henn to open the Public Hearing to dispose of the North 35 feet of the South 110 feet of the Lot 15, Block 7, Original Town of Gilbert, Iowa.

 

No citizens were present and no written comments were received.

 

    Moved by Fred Vogtlin, seconded by Lynn Henn to close the Public Hearing to dispose of the North 35 feet of the South 110 feet of the Lot 15, Block 7, Original Town of Gilbert, Iowa.

 

    Moved by Fred Vogtlin, seconded by Lynn Henn to adopt Resolution 371, authorizing disposal of the North 35 feet of the South 110 feet of Lot 15, Block 7, Original Town of Gilbert, Iowa.

Roll Call Vote: 5-0

Resolution 371 declared adopted unanimously, signed by the Mayor and hereby made a portion of these minutes.

 

    September 10th and September 24th will be the dates set for September’s Council Meetings.

 

    Moved by Fred Vogtlin, seconded by Chris Benda to adjourn at 7:40 p.m. Motion declared carried unanimously.
