MINUTES OF THE GILBERT CITY COUNCIL MEETING

GILBERT, IOWA

CALLED TO ORDER: 7:05 P.M. at City Hall, by Mayor Bob Jaquis

ROLL CALL: Present: Craig Allen (arriving at 7:07 p.m.), Chris Benda, Helen Gunderson, Lynn Henn & Peg Uthe. Also present was city employee Gary Steel.

Absent: None

     Moved by Henn, seconded by Uthe to approve the minutes for March 18, 2002, revenue and expense report for March 2002, Agenda, Claims List, and Interim Claims List for April 1, 2002. Motion declared carried unanimously.

 Lieutenant Rick Rewerts from the Story County Sheriff’s Office was present for the Open Forum. Lieutenant Rewerts asked the Mayor and Council if there were any questions or concerns for the Sheriff’s Office. Council discussed stop signs, noise and speed issues with Lieutenant Rewets.

  No other citizen requested to speak during the open forum.

    Mayor Jaquis and council discussed driveway approach depth with city employee Gary Steel. Council seemed agreed to have the driveway approach depth six inches.

     Moved by Uthe, seconded by Henn to open the Public Hearing for Ordinance 279, Amending Prohibiting Parking on a part of Thompson Avenue. Motion declared carried unanimously.

No citizen was present to speak during the Public Hearing.

    Moved by Uthe, seconded by Henn to close the Public Hearing for Ordinance 279. Motion declared carried unanimously.

    Moved by Henn, seconded by Uthe to adopt Ordinance 279, Amending Prohibiting Parking on a part of Thompson Avenue. Motion declared carried unanimously.

    Moved by Uthe, seconded by Henn to open the Public Hearing on Resolution 388, approving the adoption of the 2002-2003 fiscal year budget. Motion declared carried unanimously.

No citizen was present to speak during the Public Hearing.

    Moved by Henn, seconded by Gunderson to close the Public Hearing on Resolution 388, approving the adoption of the 2002-2003 fiscal year budget. Motion declared carried unanimously.

   Moved by Henn, seconded by Uthe to adopt Resolution 388, approving the adoption of the 2002-2003 fiscal year budget.

Roll Call Vote: 5-0

Resolution 388 declared adopted unanimously, signed by the Mayor and hereby made a portion of these minutes.

    Moved by Uthe, seconded by Henn to open the Public Hearing for Ordinance 280, Amending the Notice of Hearing upon Adopting a proposed budget. Motion declared carried unanimously.

    No citizen was present to speak during the Public Hearing.

    Moved by Uthe, seconded by Henn to close the Public Hearing for Ordinance 280. Motion declared carried unanimously.

    Moved by Uthe, seconded by Henn to approve the first reading of Ordinance 280, Amending the Notice of Hearing upon Adopting a proposed budget. Motion declared carried unanimously.

    Council discussed guiding policies for contacting the city attorney.

Moved by Uthe, seconded by Allen to adjourn at 8:42 p.m. Motion declared carried unanimously.
