ARCHIVED SECTION

The Gazette has been revamped. All materials published prior to July 2006 have been placed in this archived section, which will not be updated nor corrected unless someone brings a serious error to our attention. There is a new version, albeit minimalist, that has the potential to grow over time. more
Minutes of Gilbert City Council Meeting

Notice: This page includes an unofficial posting of the council minutes. It was developed by scanning the official minutes and recreating a page that contains the same content and is as close as possible to the normal format that the city clerk distributes. However, any process such as this is susceptible  to errors, and we welcome people to point out discrepancies between the official minutes and the ones below so we can make corrections.

MINUTES OF THE GILBERT CITY COUNCIL MEETING

GILBERT, IOWA

JUNE 2, 2003

CALLED TO ORDER: 7:00 PM at City Hall, by Mayor Jaquis

ROLL CALL: Present: Craig Allen, Lynn Henm, Chris Benda, Peggy Uthe Absent: John Popp

CONSENT CALENDAR: Moved by Peggy Uthe seconded by Lynn Henn to approve the Agenda for June 2, 2003. Motion declared carried unanimously.

OPEN FORUM. Fred Vogtlin, of the Gilbert Cemetary Association, requested 5300 from the City for oiling the road in front of the cemetery. All were in favor if funds were available. Fred may take it to the council to have this done every year. He also suggested that the City may want to consider this for future budgets.

DISCUSSION OF ENGENEERING STUDY: THE SEWAGE LAGOONS. The Lagoon is getting close to capacity and we would like to get going on the study. The council agreed to move forward.

DISSCUSSION OF STREET SWEEPING. Gary brought forward the streets were not cleaned last year. However, it is thought it may be too late to complete this task this year.

DISCUSSION OF WEATHER WARNING SIREN. Electric service to the town is split between old and new sections of town each being served from a different source. This eliminates the need for battery backup on the new siren. Motion to proceed with straight AC and no backup was by Lynn Henn, seconded by Chris Benda. Motion declared carried unanimously

APROVAL OF PROPERTY EXEMPTION FOR 101 DANA STREET AND 224 MATHEWS DRIVE. Approve property tax exemptions. Moved by Lynn Henn, seconded by Peggy Uthe. Motion declared carried unanimously

GENERAL DISCUSSION AMONG COUNCIL MEMBERS.

Peggy Uthe discussed City Clerk position. Temporary staff person started today working 20 hours per week. It is up to council where we go from here. This should start off with finance committee. Hiring a City Administrator was discussed. Craig Allen had no further info at this time. Craig Allen said this is good time to get more information on this so we may explore our options. Craig Allen said mile markers are now on path. They are very nice and useful and have received positive comments.

Lynn Henn discussed Christian Peterson parking in a no parking zone.

Lynn Henn discussed ballgame traffic. May need to put up a no parking sign. It may become more of an issue if emergency vehicles need to get through.
