Gilbert Evangelical Free Church

The Gilbert Evangelical Free Church meets each Sunday at 9:00 a.m. for
worship followed by Sunday school classes for all ages at 10:30 a.m.
On Sunday evenings, the junior high youth group meets at 6:00 p.m.
and the high school youth group at 7:00 p.m. On Wednesdays after
school, there is an Adventure Club for children in kindergarten
through sixth grade. The church also has two mid-week study groups.
One meets at the home of Dave Ashby on Tuesday afternoons while the
other group meets at the home of Rob Jennings in Squaw Valley on
Wednesday evenings. The congregation's pastor
is Gary Selof.
(Note: In September 2004, Pastor Gary Selof was
called to active duty in the military service. Kevin Randall of
Gilbert is serving the congregation in an interim pastoral role in
Gary's absence.)

2006, the Gilbert Lutheran Church will
celebrate its 125th Anniversary.
The Gilbert Lutheran Church is a members
congregation of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. GLC
worship services are at 8:15 and
10:45 am Sundays with an education hour for all at 9:30 am. A
nursery is provided all Sunday morning. There are two Sunday morning
adult studies – one focusing on issues with parents and children and
the other one on Biblical concerns and studies. Communion is offered
the 1st Sunday of the month and when there is a five Sunday month
also on the 3rd Sunday.
GLC Youth & Children’s Groups

Kids for Christ (KFC) – This is for children from 3rd grade
through 5th grade and meets on Wednesday after school.

Crossroads – This group is for junior high youth (7th & 8th)
and meets on Monday from 6-8 pm.

Read World – This group is for senior high youth (9th – 12th)
and meets on Sundays from 5-7 pm.

Junior Lutherans – This group (6th through 8th) meets on
Sundays once a month from September through May.

Special mission trips: In July 2005, the high school youth
will be going on a mission trip to New Orleans. In July 2006 the
high school youth will be going to San Antonio for the National
Youth Gathering (40,000 youth).

A couple of times a year the youth also go on servant trips
such as to Omaha, Chicago, Kansas City.

Confirmation ministry in small groups for those in 7th, 8th,
and fall of 9th grade.

Lydia Circle – This group is for women and meets on the 4th
Tuesday.

Gourmet Club – Meets every other month in homes.

GLC Book Club – Meets every other month in homes.

Mom’s Bible Study – Meets weekly on Wednesday in the homes of
stay-at-home mom.

Thursday Morning Men’s Bible Study – Meets every Thursday from
6-7 am at GLC.

Wednesday Morning Women’s Bible Study – Meets the 1st & 3rd
weeks from 8:30 – 10:00 am at GLC.

Prayer Group – Meets every Tuesday from 6-7 pm at GLC.

Sunday Evening Bible Study – Meets twice a month in homes from
4-6 pm.
GLC Outreach Programs
GLC also sponsors and is involved with many social outreach
programs in the central Iowa area. GLC supports these groups through
volunteer work and finances: Riverside Lutheran Bible Camp, Bethany
Manor, Beloit Children’s Home, Loaves and Fishes, ACCESS, Good
Neighbor Emergency Assistance, Project Angel Tree, Faith Fellowship,
Friendship Ark, Arc of Story County and many more.

Mackey Methodist Church
Several miles northwest
of Gilbert — slightly north
of County Highway E18 between County Highway R38 and State Highway
17. The pastor is Trevor Soderstrom who lives in Roland and
whose phone is 515-388-4335 at the Soderstrom Funeral Home.
Pleasant Grove Church A non-denominational
congregation about two miles east of Gilbert near Interstate 35.
Worship service is at 10:30 am on Sunday. The congregation does
hold a traditional ice cream social sometime in the late summer or
early fall. Please check the special
events page for any current announcements about the event. The pastor is Frank
Heubner. We're in the process of getting a phone number that we
can post for him. (Please note: the small church does have
electricity and heating but no running water or other plumbing in
the building. However, there is a facility out back that can be
used in case of emergency.)
Saint Paul's Lutheran Church A Missouri Synod
congregation several miles northwest of Gilbert

just northwest of the intersection of County Highway E18 and
State Highway 17. (Actually on a little road called Spruce Lane).
Worship is at 9:30 am on Sunday. The pastor is Bruce Lakamp who
can be reached at 515-432-8022.
Saints Peter and Paul Catholic
Church Five miles northwest of Gilbert on
County Highway R38. No offices or staff on location. Mass is at
8:30 am on Sunday. Contact person is Father Ev Hemann of St. Thomas
