Mail delivery:
There is no mail delivery to homes within a quarter
mile radius of the Post Office unless a residence is on the line of
travel of the mail carrier and has a mail box. This ruling adds a
quaint camaraderie to the town when residents, who live within a
quarter mile of the Post Office, stop at the lobby to check their
boxes and occasionally chat with other patrons. The guaranteed
time for mail to be sorted and distributed to the boxes and ready for
pickup is 9 am; however, the job is often completed earlier.
Boxes:
There are plenty of boxes (three sizes) for patrons to
rent. (The basic letter size box is provided at no charge to residents
living within a quarter mile radius of the Post Office). The annual
rent is $18 for a letter-size box (about 3x4 inches), $26 for a
medium-sized box (twice as large as a letter-size box), and $46 for a
large box measuring about 9x11 inches in which a magazine can lie
flat.
