Gazette commentary on the sales tax ballot measure.

"We will not urge you to vote for or against the sales tax on October 8. There are plenty of factors to consider, and we trust you to use your judgment. However, whether you vote for the measure or not, thank you for sifting through all the issues and please consider finding ways to make funding more equitable for all of Iowa's elementary and secondary students."

Table from the Iowa Department of Education listing all school districts in the state and the estimated enrollment, property tax capacity per student, local option sales tax capacity per student, and total tax capacity per student for each district.

The Iowa Association of School Boards has prepared a an advocacy action kit to support state funding and legislation which will address funding inequities existing in the local option sales and services tax, property tax, and other sources of revenue dedicated for school infrastructure.

The Coalition for a Common Cents Solution has formed to push for
an equitable state-wide sales tax solution to school infrastructure problem. It has also filed suit against the state of Iowa for the way the local option sales tax legislation is currently written.
